It is not a secret that we were all looking to that next big conference in the spring of 2020 or finally meeting the team that had the same struggles as us on the project of the year. We were anticipating so much more, until the world went into lockdown, and our plans were thrown into turmoil, and then suddenly we started exchanging emails with customer support agents around the world, rescheduling, flights, hotels, meeting rooms and dates. Luckily that time is over, we are approaching the 754th day of distance, and more and more people are realizing that everything was better when we were able to meet.
And where on earth is a better place to meet than in Berlin? Plus, everyone is already here. From bankers to developers, the new shapers of the automotive industry and the crypto freaks, needless to say artists and entrepreneurs. Even though 144 kilometers and almost 30 years kept parts of the city locked down, nowadays the city celebrates freedom and unity every single day, and it is noticeable in every sphere. The districts of Berlin, even though modernized and gentrified, are still very different from one another: posh Mitte, family friendly Prenzlauer Berg, artistic Friedrichshain and the diverse Neukölln on the former west, to the clubs capital Kreuzberg and very fancy Charlottenburg, the city offers so much. Transformed but the soul of the city is still there, not only in the hidden gems and the untouched districts, but to be felt everywhere.
The weakest point of the city, the airport – (you can always start an engaging conversation using the topic), let’s say it does not represent the most efficient Germany that we all know, luckily there are low cost & direct flights to and from Singapore (flyscoot.com), and that puts it super close to this side of the world. Flights to the east US coast are peanuts. Plenty of connections within the EU, but surely you get extra points if you arrive by train, the green rule of Berliners: less than 8 hours ride is a train ride.

Once you’ve landed you are safe, cos you are in one of the best cities in the world, and this is the common opinion here (no matter how rude one is). First stop: accommodation. If you want to be in the hub of the happenings, in the vibrant Friedrichshain district, then MichelBerger is the place. The rooms are to be shared with colleagues, and are on the budget side, but the food and the service are definitively spreading a higher-end vibe. On the more typical business trip side around Potsdamer Platz, is the Central District Hotel by Marriot, a classic with all the amenities one could ask for, just 15 minutes walking from another classic, the Brandenburger Gate. The Grand Hyatt Hotel, perfect for the go-getters that want to indulge in pure luxury. It provides everything a person needs after a successful day of meetings, and it is just a step away from the lungs of the city, the Tiergarten Park for that morning jog. The real gem, where you can enjoy the tranquillity of an extraordinary and extravagant retreat, in the embassy district is SO/ Berlin Stue Hotel. Right inside Berlin’s biggest park, where you will never notice that you are in the city center, and the world’s most diverse zoo is next door. It is on the high-end side and it promises stay as if you are on a short vacation rather than a work visit. Speaking of vacation, the most executive retreat, which actually translates to a palace, is the Schlosshotel Berlin, a bit further from the city, with lavish rooms and venue space – spot for making a long lasting impression.

The city breathes uniqueness and it doesn’t fail to show that even through the event venues, competing to offer the most unique experience. From more traditional hotels with conference rooms and exquisite catering as the Dorint Hotel in Berlin West and the architectural wonder Axica right on the Pariser Platz, to even more special ones, on the Spree river, like Westhafen Center, built in former warehouses or factories, which everyone longs to visit (even locals). These types of places never cease to amaze, because of the ability to be transformed into a perfect club spot, so in that manner Motowerk and Station are giving the vibe. The hunger for clubbing is always there – events in Ritter Butzke Club and parties by the pool in Haubentaucher are making lifelong memories. As a city that is an open air gallery, and shouts history and culture at every corner, an event at the Museum Island is hitting the spot. Bode museum or the Old National gallery, can’t decide, plus 100% of the profits from the venues are financing future exhibition projects. In the San Francisco of Europe, you can find startups everywhere, even in buildings of the former airport Tempelhof, which are now open for the next big thing. Another airport got closed recently, so there are more to come in this sphere. Less noise and more ideas in the city.

Nothing productive came out without fun being involved, and in Berlin most of the fun happens in nature. Kayaking and paddling around the canals are number two on the local list of experiences, because, eventually everybody is into rock climbing, making it number one mainstream but cool activity. Since it is all about the music, night swim, with a DJ set already sounds like a plan. The trabant tours and the treasure hunts are so last seasons, but luckily more and more innovative tours appear, such as the mini hotrod tour or the bespoke party that everyone wants to join – luxury adrenaline ride around the castles and the lakes of the city or even reaching Potsdam? Ja wohl! (Yes, please!)

Surely by now you are not even considering other destinations as the city is an open air art gallery, festival venue, and Europe’s biggest street food market, since everyone and their kids have already moved here, the city is so diverse and you don’t need to travel that far to try new things, just a Street Food mingling in Kreuzberg is enough for start, followed by a midnight kebab ( don’t take the one with longest queue), and then take that vegan donut from your morning stack, and enjoy the performance of a random street duo before heading back to your comfy pillow in the hub of the unrest.
The transformed, tolerant, cosmopolitan and no longer poor, but definitively sexy, and diverse Berlin is waiting to host you and inspire you to reshape your future.
